Hello. I'm Katie.
My mission as an artist is to make work that is inviting, tangible, and makes the audience feel good. I am a sculptor based out of Edinboro, PA, and my work is meant to be touched. I work primarily in foam carving, and I carve whatever I find interesting, often at enlarged scale or in unique colors.
I use my work to investigate human interaction with art and am focusing on tactile features, fostering uplifting feelings, and expressing what it feels like to be alive.
My Story
My work is a request.
Sit down. Be still. Take a minute to be. Take a moment to touch, take a moment to feel, look, and listen.
Through this work, I have become more in touch with what I want in life: to be happy simply existing.
My work is not complicated or deeply theoretical. It is simple and kind, as I try to be. Inviting, upbeat, tangible.
When seated in my six-foot tall “upholstered” chair of foam and cement, people find their feet lifted of the ground. They sit and take a deep breath. When they do, they are fulfilling my work’s intended purpose. They are making my art what is supposed to be. With their bodies, they are saying “yes” to the request to be still.
